Mental Health Care Plan

Mental Health Care Plan , Psychiatric Management Plan , Paediatrician Plan

Under medicare with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your general practitioner (GP), a Psychiatric Management Plan from your psychiatrist or a plan from your paediatrician, you are entitled to claim a medicare rebate (of $124.50 per session) for up to 10 sessions of individual psychological treatment per calendar year. Initially the plan is for 6 rebatable sessions, after the initial set of 6 sessions you will need to return to either your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician (depending on who referred you and what type of plan you are under) to be reviewed by that referrer for another possible 4 more rebatable sessions of individual psychological treatment.

The most common type of referral we get at our practice is the Mental Health Care Plan. Your GP will determine your eligibility for this plan and for the review after the initial set of sessions. Should you wish to discuss this with your GP, please ensure that you book a longer than normal consultation.

Although a Medicare rebate can be claimed under these plans, there is a gap fee to be paid.  Please see our Rebates/Fees  page for more information about this.
